 Perfect for my 4-Year Old September 3, 2010

Since my 4-year old is starting pre-k this year, we decided to buy him a desk so he would have a dedicated place to do his homework. After reading the reviews for this one, we decided to take the plunge and purchase it. We are so happy that we did. Assembly was really quick and took about 15 minutes. Both the desk and chair are well made an appear to be very sturdy. It is a really nice looking piece of furniture. I am also happy that the storage section The size is perfect for my 4 year old who is pretty tall for his age. One suggestion I would make to other parents is to cover the desk completely with a large sheet of paper for coloring otherwise, crayon will get on the chalkboard and damage it.

Our girl turned 7 this Summer and she's by no means 'small'. We expect her to be able to use this desk at least through her second grade - Amazon's page has the exact sizes for the chair and the desk.
So, let me start with the good news:
- She absolutely loves it. It's not her first chair/table but it's the first 'serious' desk she'll be using for her study and home work. The two main features she loves is the chalkboard surface because she loves drawing and the storage space under it is "just like at school".
- From a parent point of view, I should note that this 'Made in Thailand' set is built of quality wood and it's a solid build when put together. And, by the way, the one-page assembly 'manual' was sufficient and allowed me and one of her brothers to set in all up in about 15-20 minutes.
Now, for the not so good news. There seems to be a design flaw concerning the wood that frames the 'near' side of the top. It appears to attach itself under the chalkboard through what appear to be a few small stables but ours either came detached or it separated as we unpacked. I can't see how this would stay attached to the chalkboard for long even if it may appear to be Okay initially. To make this too long a story short, we fixed it with some wood glue but I can't understand why this wasn't done at the factory.
Overall, this was a good buy for us - got it as an Amazon special - and the person who is going to use it for the next year is very happy with it. It's a quality set and we expect to get premium dollar when it becomes a garage sale item.

Overall this is a solidly built well designed desk. It is constructed from solid wood which screws together tightly for a no-wobble desk. The finish quite nice; sophisticated enough to be a piece of furniture as opposed to a child's toy. The chalkboard top is also high quality; it is easy to draw on and erases well (many cheap chalkboards don't erase well). My one gripe is that the front edging on the lift top had come off during shipping. It is not simply cosmetic as the desktop rests on it. It was only attached with a scant bit of clue and some little brads. I had to remove the brads with a pair of vise grips, sand down the finish to expose the wood, and then re-glue the board to the chalkboard with Titebond III. Now it is not going anywhere, but it took me about an hour to fix it. However, now I have a great desk for my kids that I got for fifty dollars.

I bought this for my daughters second birthday. She loves it, she will open the lid of the desk and go around to the back of the desk and use it as an easel. It gives her somewhere to store her crayons, stickers and now chalks. I read the reviews here before buying this and it was these reviews which helped me decide that this was a good gift for my daughter and on the whole they were right however those considering this should be aware of the fact that the rail that forms the leading edge of the blackboard lid is held on with staples or nail-gun wire type nails. these do not hold this part on very well and considering this is where the child's takes a hold of the lid to open and close it, it was a very poor choice of fixing method, so much so mine had come off in the box. Rather than return it (this seemed pointless as we would only get another build the same way and we like the rest of it) I chose to modify it using screws. With this part now very strong the desk is perfect and the lid has withstood being slammed and opened quickly and repeatedly.
I will still recommend this item as over all it's very nice and well priced. If anyone has one or wants one and would like to know what I did to modify it email me at nict300@gmail.com and I'll send you pictures, it really takes about 15 mins to fix the issue and is well worth it.
If this had not been an issue then I would have given it 5 stars

The plank at the edge of the black board is falled off from it at arrival. It is nailed to the black board using several tiny staples. They should use other more sturdy design at this position.
Otherwise it is a Ok product. It is easy to assemble the desk and chair.
